Chapell’s Preaching Classes

May 15, 2009

Much of what I’ve learned about the theory behind sermon-preparation is a series of lectures I listened to from Bryan Chapell. These introductory lectures give you an excellent starting point from which you can adapt your own approach. One of thing I really like about Chapell’s homiletics course, is that it is a course on preaching taught by someone who can really preach! Amen?

  1. Hi Colin,
I don’t know if it was supposed to be that way, but when I try to open the “listen” link, I’m asked to log in a wordpress account. Is there a problem with the hyperlink, or should I just accept the obvious reality of my humble knowledge of the blogosphere?
    Thanks.

  2. There’s something wrong with the link; I can’t figure out what. I suppose you would just need to download instead.

    Sorry,

    Colin

  3. We’ve just had Bryan Chapell here in Sydney. His main emphasis – which is soooo helpful – is that of asking how every text points to Christ. So much of evangelical preaching is, as Chapell puts it, ‘Sola Boots-strapsus’ and nothing more than moralism.

Keller has a similar emphasis (although expressed slightly differently) so maybe this is something that evangelical Presbyterians have got sorted.
