The following article has been very challenging to me and I simply want to direct you to it. Please, please, read this if you are a pastor. Its by Mark Driscoll and is called “Death by Ministry.”

That is very convicting and comforting at the same time. Thank you for linking it.
I dare not say how many of these indicators I have but it doesn’t surprise me. I’ve been pastoring now for almost thirty years and I work more hours per week than ever before and fight for quality time with my God more than ever before. I will show this to my wife and we will attempt – again – to better use what God gives us for our good.
I had a similar experience after my wife read this today. She also discovered that she had many of the indicators as well. God have mercy on our workaholic sinful hearts.
Thanks for the link, I read it and sent it to the chuch leader. As I am entering the ministry, this is a great time to think ahead and adopt some principles to avoid such paths.
Those statistics are shocking at first glance. But when I remember the physical and emotional state I allowed myself to get into during my first year of ministry, they seem on target. I was a guilt-driven minister. Misery! I never want to go back to that again, but I know I am certainly capable.
Thank you for this much needed reminder. May God guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
