That was indeed very touching. I can’t help but be excited about his new position.
I think the statement that really was so incredibly wise was Ryken’s comment (at the 5:40ish mark) to Jim Boise and another fellow Elder when Ryken first arrived in 1995:
“My commitment was to not to leave this church one day before God called me to leave this church and not to stay one day later that He had for me to stay here.”
Very insightful quote by Ryken. I wish him the best at Wheaton.
It is moving, of course – but a little self-indulgent, don’t you think, to take 41 minutes to tell a congregation you’re leaving and why?
